performance dinner lecture, hosted at Mary McQuire's, November 4th, 2023, Silverlake, CA
video documentation of performative dinner lecture, 39:48 min. Khanom jeen served on Blue Transferware I-VII, 6 types of ingredients brought by guests, books, scanned copies of excerpts, pens, books, markers
Six guests from different diasporas living in the US, are invited to share a meal of khanom jeen, a Southeast Asian noodle dish with curry, on the Blue Transferware I-VII plates. The khanom jeen is a popular dish from Ayutthya where my great grand uncle, Pridi Banomyong was born. It is accompanied by different types of vegetables and fruits, which I’ve asked each guest to contribute. Throughout the meal, I read excerpts on my great grand uncle’s escape and invited guests to expand on the narrative with their own experiences and histories of diaspora.
